Austrian Air Cancels Iraq Flight Launch
Date: Saturday, February 25 @ 07:26:52 PST Topic: Aviation
Austrian Airlines has postponed indefinitely its plans to start scheduled flights from Vienna to Arbil in northern Iraq which would have made it the first European airline with a regular service to Iraq.
The airline said in a statement on Friday that the delay was due to a new review of the circumstances, which had led to fresh concerns about the start of the service. It said it would continue to work on starting the flights at a later date.
Partly state-owned Austrian Airlines serves a large network of routes into eastern Europe and the Balkans. It was the first European airline to start services to Sarajevo and Pristina after the civil war in the former Yugoslavia.
