A New York-bound Olympic Airlines passenger jet was given the all clear on Monday after it was forced to make an emergency landing at a London airport following a bomb threat, British police said.
Police ended their search of the Olympic Airbus A340 about 12 hours after it touched down at Stansted Airport on Sunday.
"Police are satisfied that there is no threat to safety," Essex police said in a statement.
Two Royal Air Force Tornado fighter planes were scrambled to escort the Athens to New York service after a caller to a Greek newspaper said a bomb was on board.
The anonymous caller told Ethnos: "The Olympic Airlines flight 411 for America carries a bomb for Iraq... Can you hear me? Flight 411 for America, bomb. America will see. Six o'clock message for you."
An airlines spokeswoman said the pilot was informed of the threat over France. About 300 passengers and 12 crew were safely evacuated at Stansted.
Athens Airport is on heightened alert because of the Paralympic Games that end on Monday. Hundreds of armed security guards, sniffer dogs and bomb experts patrol the airport.
