The MIG Advanced Trainer first flew on March 16 1996. Intended to replace the Russian Air Forces' extensive fleet of Aero L-29's and L-39's, the MIG-AT has undergone trials in competition with the YAK - 130 but only a small batch have been ordered for service testing. To assist with export appeal an agreement was signed between MIG and Snecma in 1992 for the supply of Larzac engines for the prototypes and overseas customers. Future proposed variants include a folding wing carrier borne trainer version and a single-seater with Moskit radar in an extended nose. Designed by Brian Whitelegg
