| Aeroflot To Replace Medium-Range Fleet |
Aeroflot plans to spend USD$600 million in the next six years on buying new planes for its medium-range aircraft fleet, Vedomosti business daily reported on Wednesday.
Currently state-owned Aeroflot, which carried 5.8 million passengers in 2003, operates 93 aircraft, including 27 foreign-made planes. Its revenue was 49 billion roubles (USD$1.69 billion) last year.
"We need medium-range planes with seat capacity of 70 to 100 people and distance range of 2,500 km. These planes will replace our Tupolev aircraft on domestic and European fights," Sergei Koltovich, Aeroflot's chief fleet manager, told Vedomosti.
It was unclear whether Aeroflot would buy foreign-made airplanes or local ones.
Koltovich said Aeroflot, currently undergoing wide-ranging restructuring to improve service to boost its presence on the global market, planned to buy about 50 planes by 2010.
