| Strong Winds Damage Embraer Factory |
Winds of 100 km per hour that damaged the main factory of Brazilian jetmaker Embraer and injured workers prompted the plane maker to cancel its morning work shift on Wednesday, a day after the storm hit.
But Embraer said work returned to normal for the afternoon shift at the assembly plant, where shifts have about 1,000 workers.
The unusual tropical storm that hit on Tuesday wrecked the roofs of Embraer's F-45 storage hangar, the F-51 plane maintenance hangar and the F-30 hangar, where some parts are made and planes in the ERJ 145 model group pass through final assembly.
Still, Embraer said the storm would not hurt its delivery schedule.
An Embraer official did not say if the storm in Sao Jose dos Campos, 97km (60 miles) from the city of Sao Paulo, caused a financial loss.
Embraer said it was working to rehabilitate the assembly line for its family of ERJ 145 jets and with insurance companies to repair the buildings.
At least two workers suffered broken bones -- one of them a fractured pelvis. Sixteen workers in all received medical attention.
"All cases (of injury) received first aid," Embraer said in a statement.
